New York District Chief Coroner Dr. Terry Barelson is leaving office midway through her first contract term as a Chief Coroner. She has resigned effective Friday.
Barelson, a former deputy medical examiner and investigator, was hired in March 2139. She replaced Vera Cunningham, who retired.
Barelson was the Chief Coroner when the attack at Saratoga Mall (December 2, 2141) left 29 shoppers dead and 134 injured. The alleged assailants, gun-bots Traxus Botboy and Godza Rilla, were destroyed during the police "rescue" operation.
Barelson said she is leaving to spend more time with her family. She refused to comment further on her resignation or her involvement in the Saratoga investigation.
